Rhythm and Groove	Excellent The rhythms are clear and balanced, creating a strong foundation groove to the composition. There are also varying rhythmic ideas in between sections	Good The rhythms are overall clear and balanced, creating a solid foundational groove to the composition. There are occasional rhythmic choices that conflict with the groove or create possible musical chaos.	Fair The composed rhythms have multiple timing, balancing, and tempo issues that create an unsettling groove feel to the song.	Poor The rhythmic and groove choices are chaotic and lack consistency and clarity.
Form	Excellent There is a clear and planned definite form to the piece.	Good There seems to be a plan for form but it is not well rehearsed.	Fair There is a very loose form if any and the piece seems somewhat made up on the spot.	Poor There is no apparent form evident and the whole piece appears completely random.
Musicianship	Excellent The composition has strong creative ideas and sense of musicianship that creates a strong emotional and communicative response from the listener. There are little to no common place and basic musical mistakes and reflects a strong sense of musicianship.	Good The composition has good creative ideas and sense of musicianship that creates some emotional and communicative response from the listener. However, there are portions of the composition that seem confusing, too busy, or lacking in traditional musicianship.	Fair The composition has average creative ideas and sense of musicianship that creates little emotional and communicative response from the listener. The composition is also filled with reoccurring basic musical mistakes that distract the listener from connecting with the composition.	Poor The composition has below average creative ideas and sense of musicianship that creates little to no emotional and communicative response from the listener. The composition is fill with many basic musical mistakes that distract the listener from connecting with the composition.
Performance and Use of Technology	Excellent Student can perform and use the compositional technology accurately and with certainty.	Good Student can perform and use the compositional technology well but make minor mistakes or appear to start and stop.	Fair Student performance of the composition and use of technology is shaky and it seems like more practice would help.	Poor Student can not perform the composition and do not understand the technology need to complete the basic compositional tasks.
