Practice Seam-Quiz Grade

Students sew one sample seam. Students scored on how straight and even seams are, as well as proper identification. Neatness and evenness count.

Plain Seam 2 pts	Fair Seam is puckered and/or uneven. The seam is not consistent in width and not what directions called for.	Good Seams are smooth and sewn mostly straight. Seams have mostly a consistent width	Excellent Seams are consistently smooth, sewn straight and are of even width. Seams are pressed open.
Back Stitch 2 pts	Fair Sewing does not include the backstitch	Good Sewing includes one backstitch but not both at the start and end. The backstitch is not aligned with the stitching.	Excellent Sewing includes the proper backstitch at the start and end. It is neatly aligned with the stitching.
Neatness 2 pts	Fair Sewing is puckered, uneven, not aligned with the fabric edge, threads are knotted, fabric was not pressed.	Good Seam is smooth and sewn mostly straight. Seams have mostly a consistent width, fabric may have been pressed.	Excellent Seam is consistently smooth, sewn straight and of even width, fabric was pressed. All parts of the sample are neatly completed.
Work Ethic 2 pts	Fair Needed promting to begin each day. Left machine and/or materials unattended. Did minimal work.	Good Slow to start each day, assisted others as needed, preparation and cleanup was not conducted on a regular basis.	Excellent Self starter, assisted others as needed, prepared work space before beginning & cleaned up before leaving.
