Summarizing a nonfiction article

Students will write a theme statement from various sources and provide evidence from the text to support their findings.

For Black History Month, the student is to read a biography about an African American, and then write and present a biography poster on this important historical figure. This biography includes information about the person's life, what led them to their chosen career or purpose, what contributions they made to society, interesting or unique facts about the person, and the student's own reflections about the impact that the person and their contributions have on modern times.

This rubric is designed to clearly outline the grading process of homework and assignments.

The following rubric will be used to grade your Concrete/Shape poem.

• A Quick write answers a question using textual evidence from the text. • A short paragraph(s) response that is well structured. • Provide relevant and complete evidence • Paragraph(s) should include: - A focus statement/Topic Sentence - Two pieces of textual evidence - For each piece of evidence, have an analysis or explanation: What does this evidence mean?/How is this evidence relevant? - A concluding sentence wrapping up your point/supports topic/point
