Objectives: Students will create comic strips applying Newton's Laws of Motion to everyday situations.

(BRIDGE, EGG DROP, HOVERCRAFT, ROLLER COASTER, MARSHMELLOW LAUNCHER, PRINGLES CONTAINER, OTHERS) The student will design and build a project of their choice then write a summary report for the following requirements.

The student will study the physics involved from rockets.

Written project

Research & choose 2 science fair projects. Pick subjects that intrigue you, have real life application, & are creative & that you can test using the SCIENTIFIC METHOD! You must have a large data set, either by doing repetitions or by having a large sample group. In most cases you MUST have a control group. Write a paragrah or step by step procedure explaining your plan for each experiment & the use of the scientific method. This counts as a test grade. It will be your project in the fall.

Students will select a scientist from their race to research and present to the class.

Build a model house to explain the forces acting on it, such as compression, tension and torsion, wind loads and other anticipated natural disasters and distribution of forces over vertical supports. Considerations to include are local materials, access to services, environmental impacts.

Project in the Momentum/Impulse Unit

The purpose of this competition is to apply physics principles to design and build a mousetrap-powered boat out of simple materials to accomplish four specific criteria.

Research the approved topic. Submit 3-5 typed pages of publishing the results of your research. Include a Works Cited page with at least 4 sources used researching the paper. Paper will be graded on quality of research, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, and relevance of included information. Grade will be based on organization, clarity, use of transitions, appropriate voice, correct citation format, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
