Base-line Assessment

This is a test grade and a long-term assignment

Upon completion of reading a historical fictional story, readers will show their understanding of historical fiction by creating their own historical fiction story after researching an event or person of history.

Information Texts: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. Students will research and write a five paragraph essay about a famous scientist (any area of science) . The report will include an introductory paragraph, one paragraph that details a short biography, one paragraph that tells about the figure's contribution to science and one that details how that contribution made the world a better place, and a final closing paragraph. Each paragraph should be close to 100 words or 5-7 sentences.

Five Paragraph Informative Essay scoring rubric.

Students will take the information that they learned about greek city-states and create their own. They must decide what type of government, social classes, economy, housing and religion it will have. They must include the role of women. The more specifics the better. The brochure of the city-state and the flag must be in color and clearly represent the city-state.
