Standard 2

Skill and Fitness Based Competence

Element 2.1: Demonstrate personal competence in motor skill performance for a variety of physical activities and movement patterns

Artifact: Physical Activity Picasa Collage

Reflection:

This artifact is a collage of pictures of me competing in a variety of different sporting events. The collage includes pictures of my record breaking high school 400 Freestyle relay team, pictures of me swimming at SUNYACS for SUNY Cortland, and pictures of me competing in a multitude of triathlons ranging from small local races, to Olympic distance races in NYC, to Ironman Lake Placid.

This collage clearly shows that I am competent in a variety of different physical activities. Also, judging by the pictures of me on podiums at sporting events, it’s clear that I’m proficient at swimming and triathlon rather than just being competent.

It is important to be competent in a variety of physical activities and movement patterns because as a physical education teacher, you must be able to effectively demonstrate a variety of different exercises and activities to your students. Also, as physical educators, it is our job to lead by example and practice what we preach. The best way to get your students to love physical activity is to love it yourself.
