Good

Chronic lack of a centered sound showing fundimental weakness in tone production. Pitch sufferes from incorrect embrochur and/or inaccurate hand position.
Excellent

Often demonstrates a characteristic tone but shows lapses in quality in extreme ranges of the instrument. Some lapses in pitch control.
Superior

Always demonstrates characteristic tone of instrument. Tone is centered and resonate.
Note Accuracy

Good

Plays correct notes a lot of the time but routinely misses key signatures and accidentals.
Excellent

Plays correct notes most of the time with occasional slips in recognizing key signatures or observing accidentals.
Superior

Nearly always plays correct notes and demonstrates advanced music reading skills.
Rhythmic Accuracy

Good

Comprehends quarter and half note combinations. Shows a limited understanding of counting complex rhythms keeping a steady beat or pulse.
Excellent

Demonstrates an understanding of simple rhythmic patterns. Eight, Sixteenth, Dotted rhythms and syncopation rhythms are not handled with complete success.
Superior

Demonstrates an advanced understanding of rhythmic stability. Is able to play complex rhythms with almost complete mastery.
Musicality

Good

Performance lacks attention to dynamic, style, tempo, and phrase elements of music.
Excellent

Performs much of the music with limited contrast of dynamics and tempo variance. Shows periodic lapses of correct attacks and releases relative to style.
Superior

Expressive qualities of the music are observed most of the time. Dynamics and phrases are recognized and note beginnings and endings are handled with the correct style and finness.
Practice & Rehearsal

Good

Performance does not evidence much outside of class preparation. Lapses in "On Task" behaviors in class.
Excellent

Performance shows some progress in music performance but does not quickly demonstrate a complete familiarity of the music. Inconsistent evidence of practice.
Superior

Performance shows evidence of practice at home and preparation for the next rehearsal. Music is quickly learned. Always prepared for rehearsal.
