Vocabulary Use of vocabulary word taught in class.	Poor Student does not use any of the vocab words taught in class. Or words used are used incorrectly.	Fair Student uses only 2-4 vocab words taught in class. Or majority of words used are incorrect.	Good Student uses 5-7 vocab words taught in class. Most of the vocab words are used corectly throughout the essay and applied to the topic.	Excellent Student uses 8-10 of the vocab words taught in class. Words are applied correctly throught the essay. Shows understanding of the vocab words.
Examples and Information Examples and information about the topic to support thesis statement.	Poor There is incorrect information about topic throughout the essay. Information used is not tied back to the thesis statement or different from thesis.	Fair Student has some examples in essay but does not always tie back to thesis. Or Student has some incorrect information.	Good Student has some examples that tie back to thesis. Majority of information throughout the essay is correct.	Excellent Student has strong examples throughout essay. Always tied back to the thesis. All information about the topic is correct. Applies and supports main idea with use of examples and information.
Thesis Statement Enter description	Poor Student has a poor thesis statement OR no thesis statement in essay.	Fair Student has a weak thesis statement hard to find in essay. Does not give a clear explanation of what is going to be in the essay.	Good Student has an understandable thesis statement of what essay is going to be about. Thesis has a stand point that can be understood.	Excellent Student is able to contruct a strong thesis statement. Easy to find and very clear to what is going to be in the essay. Has a strong stand point in thesis.
Transition Transition between each paragraph and information in each paragraph. Use of transition words and phrases.	Poor No transtion between each paragraph or information in the essay.	Fair Some use of transition between each paragraph. Little to know transition in paragraphs. Same transition word used over and over.	Good Use of transition between each paragraph. Some use of transition in each paragraph when using different examples and information. some change in tranisiton words.	Excellent Use of many different transition words through out the essay. Has smooth transition between each paragraph and information in the paragraphs.
