Pitch	Exemplary The student performed all notes correctly and in tune	Proficient The student performed the scale with 1 or 2 errors and most notes in tune	Developing The student performed with 3 - 5 errors and some notes in tune	Beginning The student performed with more than 5 errors and few notes in tune
Tone	Exemplary The student's tone is dark, rich and is characteristic of the instrument.	Proficient The student's tone is dark and characteristic of the instrument, but could use some depth from the pick or finger pluck.	Developing The student's tone is adequate, but needs attention on picking or plucking the strings.	Beginning The student's tone is too thin and quiet to be heard by an audience.
Tempo	Exemplary Student plays at a tempo that is appropriate to the song. The tempo is steady and accurate.	Proficient Student plays at a tempo that approximates appropriateness for the song. The tempo is steady and accurate.	Developing Student plays at a tempo that is too slow for the song AND/OR the tempo may be unsteady.	Beginning Student plays at a tempo that is slow AND is unsteady.
Rhythm	Exemplary The student plays with accurate rhythm throughout.	Proficient The student plays mostly accurate, with no more than 3 errors.	Developing The student plays with 4 to 8 errors.	Beginning The student makes many errors, or is unsteady in the rhythm.
Cooperation	Exemplary The student worked well with a partner and they perform together as an ensemble.	Proficient The student worked well with a partner, and they attempted to perform together as an ensemble.	Developing The student worked mostly on his/her own AND/OR did not listen to what the partner was playing in performance.	Beginning The student worked alone, without regard for the partner and performed as if playing a solo.
