Dream House Plan 
The students will manipulate the regular shapes to construct a dream house floor plan for Miss Fields to decide upon. The students will have to construct their own layout, calculate the area of each room and the total house, and present their plan to the class.

Grading criteria for diverse learners will be acknowledged with their IEP accommodations.

ELLs will be provided English dictionaries and other accommodations according to their plan to assist with the given assessment. Pre-teaching these students will assist in their understanding of the mathematical and floor plan concepts.

Calculations of Area

Students excelled in their calculations of each room of area and the total area of the house layout. No mathematical errors should occur. ELL students will not be penalized if the metric system is used.

Measured areas of the rooms correctly, but failed to calculate the total area with some errors.
Proficient

Measured areas of the rooms correctly and the total area with minor errors.
Excellent

Measured areas of the rooms correctly and the total area with no errors.
Plan Layout
20 pts

Students showed creativity within their floor plan. The plan was neat and showed a variety of shapes and sizes. ELL students will be able to show their work through illustrations and be able to label to show understanding.

Novice

Layout is present but unorganized, not in the layout of a house, and does not show correct use of manipulative shapes.
Basic

Layout is present with some organization. Most shapes were regular with some errors of alignment for house formation.
Proficient

Layout is neat, organized and used all regular shapes in the plan for a house with minimal errors.
Excellent

Layout is neat, organized and excelled in creativity used of manipulative shapes with no errors.
Participation & Presentation
20 pts

Students showed participation throughout the assessment and presented their plan with excellence.

Novice

Minimum participation and no presentation.
Basic

Some participation and basic presentation.
Proficient

Participated frequently and demonstrated a proficient presentation.
Excellent

Full participation and excellent presentation of plan.
