Creativeness	Excellent Student has taken the technique being studied and applied it in a way that is totally his/her own. The student's personality/voice comes through.	Good Shows creative thought about color, design, and techniques used. The student's personality comes through in parts of the painting.	Fair There is little evidence of creativeness with color, design, and technique, but the student has done the assignment.	Poor Student has not made much attempt to meet the requirements of the assignment.
Effort	Excellent Obvious effort was put into this project. Oil pastels are applied in a manner very consistent with the technique being studied.	Good Shows effort. Oil pastels are applied in a manner that is reasonably consistent with the technique being studied.	Fair Shows some effort. Oil pastels are applied in a manner that is somewhat consistent with the technique being studied.	Poor Shows little to no effort. Incomplete. No attempt has been made to apply oil pastels are in a manner that is consistent with the technique being studied.
Use of Materials	Excellent Student keeps oil pastel materials and area clean and protected without reminders. The student shows great respect for the materials and fellow students.	Good Student cleans materials and work area at the end of the class without reminder, but the area may be messy during class. Student shows respect for materials and fellow students.	Fair Student adequately cleans and takes care of materials if reminded. Occasional messy work area may be seen. Shows some respect for materials and fellow students.	Poor Student deliberately misuses materials AND/OR does not adequately clean materials or area when reminded. Shows little respect for materials or fellow students.
Planning & Time Management	Excellent Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and design of the reverse pastel painting. Very focused and goal-oriented.	Good Class time was sometimes used wisely. Some time and effort went into the planning and design of the reverse pastel painting. Somewhat focused and goal-oriented.	Fair Class time was not always used wisely and not a lot of time and effort went into the planning and design of the reverse pastel painting. Little focus is evident.
