Multiple elements and principles were added to their self portrait to create visual interest. They thought about the texture of their hair; the color of their skin, hair and eyes. They considered form in making their portrait look 3D and shape in making their face have the right proportions.

Multiple elements and principles were added to their self portrait to create visual interest. They met the requirements, but needed to consider one of two of the principles to fix errors like the proportions of the face or colors for example.

There were problems in their self portrait. 3-4 elements and principles were not considered in the making of their self portrait.

Student completed the self portrait on time and used the whole class time working on it.

Needs improvement. The student got off task a few times this project which showed in their end self portrait product.

Make goals on what you want to accomplish each day. Create a self portrait using the template as a guide.
Apply tempera paint with a thicker consistency to the areas I want to keep that color.
Apply ink over the whole canvas.
Wash off ink after it completely dries.
Reflect on how masks can hide part of identity.
