Exceeds Standards

Comes to class on Lit. Circle Day with work prepared. Contributes to group discussion. Helps with notetaking responsibilities. Offers suggestions for additional questions, passages not discussed, and/or how research might be incorporated into the discussion.

Approaches Standards

Research fails to generate meaningful discussion about the historical context or seems randomly selected.
Approaches Standards

Selects research materials that are somewhat insignificant or historically irrelevant to the overall meaning of the text OR which duplicate a previous idea.
Exceeds Standards

Identifies and researches significant terms/ideas that are historically relevant in the text AND which generate rich group discussions about the historical context of the novel.
Summarizer

Summary does not truly represent the overall gist of the reading that week.
Approaches Standards

Summary is too brief or too rambling and does not completely capture the overall essence of the section. Mistakes impact the overall meaning of the writing.
Exceeds Standards

Captures the significant essence of the week's reading in a coherent summary which is focused and polished. If you are the notetaker in a four person group then your notes must thoroughly record the group's discussion and capture everyone's participation.
