Main Idea	Beginning Student demonstrates little to no understanding of the main idea. He or she wrote an inaccurate statement that represents the main idea.	Developing Student partially identified a main idea in a simple sentence.	Proficient The main idea is identified clearly in a complex, detailed sentence.
Key Details	Beginning Student includes zero to one key detail to support main idea.	Developing Student includes two key details to support main idea.	Proficient Student includes three key details to support main idea.
Summary	Beginning The student does not state the main idea and uses 0-1 key detail to summarize text.	Developing The student states the main idea and 1-2 key detail(s) to summarize text.	Proficient The student states the main idea and three key details to summarize text.
