	Excellent 4 pts	Good 3 pts	Fair 2 pts	Weak 1 pts
Preparation	Excellent Student is well prepared, rehearsed her poem thoroughly and memorized the entire poem.	Good Student is well prepared and may need to reference the poem one or two times.	Fair Student is somewhat prepared and would benefit from more rehearsals.	Weak Student is unprepared for the task. Little evidence of any rehearsals.
Accuarcy	Excellent The student reads the poem without making any mistakes.	Good The student reads the poem making any or only one mistake and self- corrects the mistake.	Fair The student reads the poem and makes between 2 and 3 mistakes. Student may self correct.	Weak The student reads the poem and makes 4 or more mistakes.
Pausing and Pacing	Excellent The student uses pauses and pace perfectly to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.	Good The students uses pauses and pacing to effectively communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.	Fair Pauses and pacing were not effective in improving meaning and/or dramatic effect. Pauses at ends of lines rather than at punctuation marks. Delivery is in bursts.	Weak Pauses were not intentionally used. Poetry is choppy and “sing-song.” Delivery is either too quick or too slow. Reads words with no logical grouping.
Clarity and Expression	Excellent The student speaks clearly, Recites loudly enough for all to hear throughout the presentation.	Good The student speaks relatively clearly and distinctly.	Fair The student speaks somewhat clearly but is, at times, indistinct, too quiet,	Weak The student does not speak clearly, mispronounces words and is inaudible to the audience. Spoken in monotone.
