Tempo
Level 4: Exceeds Standards
Tempo is absolutely steady throughout the entire composition. This sounds like a metronome was used while composing.
Level 3: Meets Standards
Tempo is steady throughout most of the the composition. I can't tell if a metronome was used while composing.
Level 2: Approaches Standards
Tempo is only occasionally steady. I don't think a metronome was used while composing.
Level 1: Emerging
Little or no thought was given to the tempo of this composition. Tempo is irregular throughout the entire composition. This sounds like rhythms were just randomly being played.
Rhythmic Idea Clarity
Level 4: Exceeds Standards
Listener can reproduce the rhythmic idea very easily. If there are multiple rhythmic tracks, care was given toward making them rhythmically complimentary. These rhythms are really stuck in my head now.
Level 3: Meets Standards
Listener can reproduce most of the rhythmic idea. If there are multiple rhythmic tracks, some care was given toward making them rhythmically complimentary. These rhythms are somewhat catchy.
Level 2: Approaches Standards
Although a rhythmic idea may exist, it is difficult for the listener to identify any pattern. Additional rhythmic tracks exist, but only add to the confusion. These rhythms are not catchy at all.
Level 1: Emerging
Little or no thought was given to the rhythmic idea. No rhythmic organization exists. This sounds like rhythms were just randomly being played.
Rhythmic Development
Level 4: Exceeds Standards
Rhythmic idea is developed two or more times and demonstrates a form of variation (binary, ternary, theme & variations). Listener can clearly identify the main rhythmic idea, as well as the variations.
Level 3: Meets Standards
Rhythmic idea is developed at least once and roughly adheres to a form of variation. Listener can identify the rhythmic idea and at least one variation.
Level 2: Approaches Standards
Rhythmic idea may be stated, but little or no thought was given to the development. Listener is unable to identify the rhythmic idea or a variation.
Level 1: Emerging
Little or no thought was given to the development of the rhythmic idea. This sounds like rhythms were just randomly being played.
Instrumentation
Level 4: Exceeds Standards
Instrument selection conveys thoughtful planning that supports the overall rhythmic composition and timbre. These instruments sound great together.
Level 3: Meets Standards
Some thought was given to the selection of complimentary instruments. These instruments sound ok together.
Level 2: Approaches Standards
Instrument selection conveys very little planning and is distracting to the overall rhythmic idea. These instruments do not sound good together.
Level 1: Emerging
Little or no thought was given to the instrumentation. This sounds like rhythms were just randomly being played.
Technological Know-how
Level 4: Exceeds Standards
Composer's thorough understanding of the software (GarageBand, Logic, etc.) and hardware used (digital keyboard, microphone, etc.) facilitated this exemplary rhythmic composition.
Level 3: Meets Standards
Composer's understanding of the software and hardware helped with this rhythmic composition.
Level 2: Approaches Standards
Composer lacks the basic understanding of the software and hardware used. Their inability to successfully utilize these digital tools distracts from their overall rhythmic idea.
Level 1: Emerging
Composer has little or no understanding of the software and hardware used and was unable to properly compose a basic rhythmic composition.
