Procedural Fluency

Students estimate about how many of one object will be the same length as the object they are measuring.
Questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Meets standard

The student completes the problem and gets the correct answer.
Does not meet standard

The student will attempt the problem but fail at the answer.
Conceptual understanding

Students use their understanding of the lengths/heights of known objects that are approximately 1 inch, 1 foot, or 1 yard long to estimate the lengths of other objects. Students should be able to understand how big an inch, foot, and yard are.
Questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Meets standard

The student answers the problem correctly and shows an understanding of the concept by selecting the most reasonable unit of measure.
Does not meet standard

The student does not understand the concept of measurement units and is unable to select the correct unit for the item.
Math Reasoning/Problem Solving

Students should consider an object whose length they know and compare it to the item in the question. They should be able to establish a reasonable estimate and determine which unit would be too small or too large.
Questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Meets standard

The student can explain/reason why the unit of measure was selected. (i.e. a car is big, so I needed to use a large unit of measure)
Does not meet standard

The student is not able to explain/reason why a specific unit of measure would be used. (i.e. a cat is 8 inches)
