Writing Convention
	Level 1: Basic 1 pts	Level 2: Basic Competency 2 pts	Level 3: Full Competency 3 pts	Level 4: Exceeds Expectations 4 pts
Spacing and Capitalization	Level 1: Basic Puts spaces between words and capitalizes the first letter of the sentence with 70% accuracy of higher.	Level 2: Basic Competency Puts spaces between words and capitalizes the first letter of the sentence and I words with 70% accuracy or higher.	Level 3: Full Competency Puts spaces between words and capitalizes the first letter of the sentence, I words and the name of people with 70% accuracy or higher.	Level 4: Exceeds Expectations Puts spaces between words and capitalizes the first letter of the sentence, the I word, and the name of people and places with 70% accuracy of higher.
Punctuation	Level 1: Basic Puts a period on the end of the sentence with 70% consistency or higher.	Level 2: Basic Competency Puts a period and question mark on the end of the sentence with 70% consistency or higher.	Level 3: Full Competency Puts a period, question mark or exclamation point on the end of the sentence with 70% consistency or higher.	Level 4: Exceeds Expectations Places correct punctuation and uses commas and/or exclamation points in sentences with 70% consistency or higher.
Spelling	Level 1: Basic Correctly spells words that contain cvc, long and short vowels.	Level 2: Basic Competency Correctly spells word chunks, such as at, op, it, etc.	Level 3: Full Competency Correctly spells words with word patterns, such as lion, er, ly, etc.)	Level 4: Exceeds Expectations Correctly spells words at the IEP goal reading level.
Sentence Sense	Level 1: Basic Writes at least one sentence that can be understood by the reader.	Level 2: Basic Competency Writes at least 2-3 sentences that can be understood by the reader.	Level 3: Full Competency Writes at least a paragraph that can be understood by the reader.	Level 4: Exceeds Expectations Complete a function writing assignment, such as a postcard, letter, etc.) that can be understood by the reader.
