Introduction is clear and precise; clearly introduces the all the major elements of the text; states a strong, original thesis.
Development/Argument

Poor (D)

Development of analysis is lacking or unclear ; use no examples from text; analysis is only repetition of some of the themes themes we have discussed in class. No critical thinking or originality.
Fair (C-/C/C+)

Development of the analysis simply follows the order of the text (without reason) ; use few examples from text; analysis is only repetition of the themes themes we have discussed in class. Little or no critical thinking or originality.
Good (B-/B/B+)

Development of the analysis is logical and supports thesis; examples from text support argument; analysis is in line with themes themes we have discussed in class. Critical thinking and some originality are evident.
Outstanding (A-/A)

Development of the analysis is logical and consistently refers back to thesis and expands it; examples from text strongly support argument; analysis goes beyond themes we have discussed in class. Strong critical thinking and originality are evident.
