9th Grade Poetry Assignment

Students will create their own poem which has to be at least 3 stanzas long and 4 lines per stanza. Students must use at least two of the poetic elements introduced in this unit (simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, alliteration, assonance, etc.). Any rhyme scheme may be used.

Inclusion of Poetic Elements	Poor Student did not include any of the poetic elements discussed in the unit.	Fair Student included one of the poetic elements discussed in the unit.	Good Student included two of the poetic elements discussed in the unit.
Creativity	Poor Student did not create an original piece or did not put forth any effort into the poem.	Fair Student created an original piece but effort seemed to lack in the poem.	Good Student created an original piece and effort can be seen in the poem.
