Students will be able to improve the quality of the rehearsal experience by adhering to expected podium protocols.

Podium/conductor

Students must be aware of the podium/conductor proximity.

Poor

Student is unaware of the necessity to keep an eye open for the Conductor/Podium proximity.
Fair

Student observes Podium/Conductor proximity, often continues with non-podium behavior.
Good

Student observes podium/conductor proximity with in the first 3 seconds.
Expected

Student anticipates and acts according to podium protocols.
Talking

Students stop talking once the proximity has been established

Poor

Student continues to talk oblivious to the podium. Adherence can take up to 10 seconds.
Fair

Student continues to talk however adheres to the podium within 5 seconds.
Good

Student stops talking within 2 seconds, however is still distracted.
Expected

Student anticipates behavior and stops talking, looks at the conductor, and focuses on tasks at hand.
Instrument position

Students place their instrument on their lap in the prescribed manner. Makes transition to playing position when conductors hands go up.

Poor

Student pays little or no attention to position of instrument.
Fair

Student places instrument in prescribed fashion 75% of the time makes transition to playing position late.
Good

Student places instrument in prescribed fashion 85% of the time, makes smooth transition to playing position.
Expected

Student places instrument in prescribed fashion and makes transition to playing position without hesitation.
Post rehearsal talking

Students are expected to remain quiet after playing music.

Poor

student frequently begins talking immediately after playing. More than 50% of the time.
Fair

Student begins talking after playing 35% of the time.
Good

Student begins talking less than 15% of the time.
Expected

Student remains quiet after playing until the conductor has left the podium.
