Mastery of the NBPTS Standards for SPE - 330 
The purpose of this rubric is for the student identify which standards they have met in accordance with the class lessons. Student should have shown understanding of Special Education laws and standards through assignments and observation in both an inclusive and non-inclusive classroom.

Future teacher is not clear on what is necessary for students learning. No clear understanding of student's needs or the field of Special Education. Has not shown that through their work that they have an understanding of the laws set forth.
Fair

Future teacher makes little effort to understand what it means to be a Special educator. Only shows little understanding of the laws and standards set forth. Has not shown interest in the needs of the student.
Good

Future teacher understands and comprehends the need for standards and laws and knows when to act on them. Knows when to get involved with a student and sets clear guidelines for the students learning.
Excellent

Future teacher clearly understands and comprehends the need for standards and laws. Knows when it is necessary to incorporate them in their learning experience. Understands the need for IEPs with specific students.
Outstanding

Future teacher has shown great improvement and understanding in the field of Special Education. Knows how important the need for standards and laws are in this field. Understands why it is important to get to know students to better instruct them. Also knows that IEPs are important and that it is necessary for parents, teachers, and student to be equally invested in their classroom success.
Instructional Resources

Future teacher does not understand the need for instructional resources in any educational setting. Has not shown that they are aware of how to utilize the internet for their benefit.

Future teacher shows little interest in finding online educational resources to better their class instruction. Assignments did not reflect that they understood the importance of online resources.
Good

Future teacher is capable of researching and incorporating educational resources to their class instruction. Understands the need for making use of online instructional information.
Excellent

Future teacher can make clear decisions on what online resources are useful for their class instruction. Understands the need for additional resources to teach students and is capable of researching laws and standards.
Outstanding

Future teacher knows and understands the reason and need for instructional resources. Has shown through class assignments and observations that utilizing additional resources can make a difference in the students learning experience. Has provided many examples of their work in which the student has benefited by the use of instructional resources. Knows that the laws and standards can be found online and can incorporate them into their instruction.

Future teacher lacks good communication skills. Does not understand or see the need for open lines of communication with students and parents. Has made no attempt to discuss issues with parents, colleuges, and or administrators for the success of the student.

Future teacher shows little interest in good communication with parents, students, administrators, and collegeus. Does not know how to speak with students in a manner of understanding.
Good

Future teacher provides more interest in communication with student and parents. Is more capable of speaking to students in a respectable and understanding manner. Can clearly state what is expected from each party.
Excellent

Future teacher provides great feedback to students. Takes time and sits down with parents, student, colleguges, and administrators to find process improvements in the classroom.
Outstanding

Future teacher provides exceptional feedback to students. Is capable of making sound and concise decisions to increase student activity and performance in the classroom. Has shown through their observation that they can positively reinforce good behavior in their students. Works to improve themselves in areas of communication and encouragement.
Overall Experience & Understanding

Poor

Future teacher has shown no interest in educating students. During observation hours time spent in the classroom were not productive. Did not improve in any areas and when asked to complete assignments showed no interest in ways to improve.
Fair

Future teacher has shown little effort on assignments. Has not improved in any realm of the classroom. Assignments were not fully complete and information gained from them were not well organized. No thought was put into completed work.
Good

Future teacher shows much improvement throughout their experiences. Observations were not taken for granted. Knowledge was gained from other teachers experiences and class interaction.
Excellent

Future teacher has completed all assignments in a timely and acceptable manner. Gained much from the observational learning experiences and has shown through their work that they will provide their students with a quality education.
Outstanding

Future teacher has shown ecceptional understanding of assignments and requirements to acquire a degree in education. Full understanding of laws and standards set forth for their state. Observation was more of a teaching experience and it reflects in the work they have provided. Knows that the importance of a quality education stretches past the student just learning it continues with the learning of the educator.
