Addresses Topic	Excellent The central idea or theme is a major part of the monologue and creates a strong starting point for discussion of that theme.	Good Monologue addresses the theme but gets distracted from it.	Satisfactory Monologue addresses the chosen theme but gets distracted from it consistently.	Fair Monologue rarely touches on the chosen theme.	Poor Monologue does not address chosen theme at all.
Format/Grammar	Excellent The monologue follows correct playwriting format and the rules of proper grammar appropriate to the character.	Good The monologue usually follows correct playwriting format and the rules of proper grammar appropriate to the character with a few minor mistakes.	Satisfactory The monologue usually follows correct playwriting format and the rules of proper grammar appropriate to the character with mistakes.	Fair The monologue sometimes follows correct playwriting format and the rules of proper grammar appropriate to the character, but suffers from a number of mistakes.	Poor The scene does not adhere to the rules of playwriting format or use correct grammar.
Conflict	Excellent The conflict is clearly expressed in the monologue.	Good The conflict is strong but unfocused.	Satisfactory A conflict is present but it is unclear.	Fair The conflict is unfocused.	Poor There is no conflict.
Character	Excellent The character(s) and intentions are fully formed and clear to the audience.	Good The character(s) and intentions are mostly formed and somewhat clear.	Satisfactory The character(s) and intentions are sometimes formed and clear.	Fair The character(s) and intentions are not fully formed and/or are unclear.	Poor The character(s) and intentions are unformed and unclear.
