Wire length

Excellent

Student has the right amount of wire inside of the box. 20 cm of wire unsheathed inside the box.
Good

Student has less than 15 or more than 20 cm inside the box unsheathed.
Fair

Student has less than 10 cm or more than 25 cm inside the box.
Poor

Student has less than 5 cm or more than 30 cm inside the box.
Wire nut connection

Excellent

Student has the wire nuts tight, no copper wire is showing from the wire nut.
Good

Student has the wire nuts tight, but copper wire is visible from under the wire nut.
Fair

Student has the wire nuts on the wire but is not tight and copper wire is showing from under the wire nut.
Poor

Student has no wire nuts on wires.
Screw terminal connections

Excellent

Student has the terminal screws tight with the wire hooks going the right way. CLOCKWISE
Good

Student has the terminal screws tight, but the wire hooks are going backwards. COUNTER-CLOCKWISE
Fair

Student does not have the terminal screws tight, the wire hooks either right or backwards. Unused terminals are not screwed in.
Poor

Student does not have the wire connected to the terminal screws.
Wire length at terminal

Excellent

Wires that are terminated on screws are the correct length, not past the end of the device on either side of the screw. Exposed copper is .75 cm
Good

Wires that are terminated on screws have exposed copper past the end of the screws on either side. Exposed wire is 1 cm or longer
Fair

Wires are terminated with too much copper showing on either end. 1.5 cm or more.
Poor

Copper wire on terminals is sticking out to the side or too far past the end of the terminal. 2-4 cm long.
Wire Clamps

Excellent

1-2 cm of wire jacket is showing above the clamp and clamp is secured tightly.
Good

2-5 cm of wire jacket is showing above the clamp and clamp is secured tightly.
Fair

6-10 cm of wire jacket is showing above clamp. Clamp is loose.
Poor

No jacket is showing under the clamp.
Functionality

Excellent

Student's wiring project works without any problems. All connections are tight.
Good

Student's wiring project works but has minor problems. (connections are not tight)(wire nuts are not tight)
Fair

Student's wiring project will not work.
Poor

Student's wiring project will not work and would be a hazard if used.
Neatness

Excellent

Student's wiring project has correct covers and is ready for testing and inspection. Looks professional and finished.
Good

Student's wiring project has covers, but not may not be secured properly, looks acceptable but not professional.
Fair

Student's wiring project has covers off, cracked or loose. Looks poorly done and rushed.
Poor

Student's wiring project is unorderly to the point that it is not meet code.
