Essay Rubric 100 % This rubric will assess to what level of competency a student completed the assigned 5 paragraph essay.
	Excellent extremely good; outstanding 100 pts	Good well done but with some flaws 80 pts	Fair acceptable, many flaws 70 pts	Needs Work poor, many noticeable flaws or missing parts 60 pts	Incomplete Assignment not turned in or incomplete 0 pts
Content 50 % Looks at the quality of the argumentation within the paper	Excellent Student addresses all parts of the prompt. Arguments are clear and supported by academic sources. Student stays on topic for entire essay.	Good Student addresses most parts of the prompt. Arguments are mostly clear and supported by academic sources. Student stays on topic for majority of essay.	Fair Student addresses most parts of the prompt. Arguments are somewhat unclear and mostly supported by academic sources. Student stays on topic for over half the essay.	Needs Work Student addresses very few parts of the prompt. Arguments are not clear nor supported by academic sources. Student does not stay on topic for entire essay.	Incomplete Assignment not turned in or incomplete
Formatting and Structure 30 % Looks at whether there is a correct number of paragraphs, thesis in first paragraph, and proper MLA formatting in the paper	Excellent Essay contains the assigned 5 paragraphs, a thesis in the intro paragraph, and proper MLA formatting	Good Essay contains the assigned 5 paragraphs, a thesis in the intro paragraph, and proper MLA formatting with few errors	Fair Essay contains the assigned 5 paragraphs, a thesis somewhere in the essay, and proper MLA formatting with noticeable errors	Needs Work Essay contains less than the assigned 5 paragraphs, a thesis is not present, and there is a lack of proper MLA formatting	Incomplete Assignment not turned in or incomplete
Procedural 20 % Looks at whether students had the assigned number of sources (at least 3) and used proper grammar	Excellent Student has at least 3 academic sources cited throughout the essay and uses excellent grammar.	Good Student has at least 3 academic sources cited throughout the essay and uses good grammar with few errors.	Fair Student has at least 3 academic sources cited throughout the essay and uses acceptable grammar.	Needs Work Student has at less than 3 academic sources cited throughout the essay and uses poor grammar.	Incomplete Assignment not turned in or incomplete
