Using Personification in a First-person Turkey Narrative Using Personification in Writing Narratives Students will create a three to five paragraph story about a turkey using camouflage to escape being Thanksgiving dinner. Text structure	Below expectation The text structure is not easily discerned, or is not problem and solution.	Meeting Expectations Many different text structures are used. Or the problem was solved in the first attempt.	Exceeding Expectations The student used a problem and solution text structure. Two of the solutions did not work, and the last one did. The conflict is turkey vs. person.
Spelling and Grammar	Below expectation The student's writing had 5 or more spelling and grammar mistakes.	Meeting Expectations The student's writing had a two or less spelling and grammar mistakes. The story is at least 10 sentences but they are not divided into paragraphs.	Exceeding Expectations The student's writing was free of any spelling and grammar mistakes, including run-on sentences or fragments. The story is three paragraphs long,
Use of Personification	Below expectation The student did not use personification in his or her narrative.	Meeting Expectations	Exceeding Expectations The student correctly used personification and in their story. The characters thought, felt, or acted like people.
Point of View	Below expectation The story is written in third person.	Meeting Expectations The point of view is not used consistently and shifts from third to first person and back again.	Exceeding Expectations The story is written in first person throughout the story.
