Student will demonstrate foot care. Soap and water is used and foot care is provided to only ONE FOOT. Resident is sitting in a chair. The residents sock and shoe are replaced at the end of the skill.

Give pt call bell
State to patient you will be right back with the basin filled with water
Fill basin 3/4 of the way full warm water
Ask proctor which foot
Place basin on barrier on floor (w/the correct foot)
Ask pt if temp is ok
State to pt it will be a 20m soak but will return in 10m to check on pt
Checked pt
Return again in 10m

Skill

Wet wash cloths
Make mitted cloth
Apply soap (wash) foot and in between toes
Rinse with clean cloth using same technique.
Dry using the same technique
Orange wood stick
Nail file
Lotion -NOT in between toes (warm up lotion)
Remove excess lotion
Place sock and shoe back on
ALWAYS ASK IF PT IS OK

Empty basin (rinse, dry, disinfect)
Put away with other supplies in bedside table.

Ask if pt would like TV, water or magazine

Leave room clean
Place soiled linen in hamper
