Vocal Performance Rubric - STAR-SPANGLED BANNER

This rubric provides a guide for assessing High School Advanced and Beginning Chorus Members on singing the Star Spangled Banner, for memory, a cappella, in it's originally written form. Students will either sing the melody as a solo; sing their vocal part as a solo; or sing in a group (melody and/or SATB 4 part harmony).

Rhythmic Accuracy 10	Poor Incorrect rhythms consistently occur significantly detracting from the overall performance.<BR> Rhythms generally unrecognizable along with a steady beat.	Fair Incorrect rhythms frequently occur detracting from the overall performance.	Good Incorrect rhythms occasionally occur detracting from the overall performance.	Very Good Incorrect rhythms rarely occur without detracting from the overall performance.	Excellent Rhythms are consistently accurate as notated enhancing the overall performance.
Tempo 10	Poor Incorrect tempo and pulse consistently occur significantly detracting from the overall performance.	Fair Incorrect tempo and pulse frequently occur detracting from the overall performance.	Good Incorrect tempo and pulse occasionally occur detracting from the overall performance.	Very Good Incorrect tempo and pulse rarely occur without detracting from the overall performance.	Excellent Tempo and pulse are consistently accurate as notated enhancing the overall performance.
Pitch Acuracy 10	Poor Incorrect pitches consistently occur significantly detracting from the overall performance.<BR> Pitches generally unrecognizable. Breath and Support 10	Poor Correct posture and breath mechanics are never employed, significantly detracting from the overall performance.	Fair Correct posture and breath mechanics are rarely employed, detracting from the overall performance.	Good Correct posture and breath mechanics are often employed, but detract from the overall performance.	Very Good Correct posture and breath mechanics are usually employed, without detracting from the overall performance. Tonal Placement 10	Poor Proper vowel and consonant use are not demonstrated, significantly detracting from the overall performance.	Fair Proper vowel and consonant use are rarely demonstrated, detracting from the overall performance.	Good Proper vowel and consonant use are often demonstrated, but tend to somewhat detract from the overall performance.
