Planning Stage (brainstorms and sketches)	Poor Student did not brainstorm or make preliminary sketches.	Fair Student had a few ideas and sketches. Student did not receive peer and teacher feedback well.	Good Student had multiple brainstorms and sketches, but could have improved on quality of sketches. Student accepted peer and teacher feedback.	Excellent Student used class time wisely. Had multiple brainstormed ideas and sketches. Sketches were done neatly and student received used peer and teacher feedback to make changes to their design.
Final Design	Poor Student did not complete a final design or design is largely incomplete	Fair Students design is complete but careless or missing elements. Improvements could have been made.	Good Student's final design is complete with a few minor mistakes	Excellent Final design is clear and nest. A cubist style design of conflict is visible and clean.
Value Application	Poor Student did not apply a high key, low key or mid key value range or ranges are incorrect. No sample in the sketchbook exists	Fair Student applied value to their artwork but it not clearly defined as high key, low key or mid key. No example exists in students sketchbook	Good Student applied a high key, low key of mid key value range to their artwork but did not make an example for there sketchbook. Value range may have a few minor mistakes	Excellent Student applied a High Key, Low Key or Mid key value range that is clear and done well. A sample value range exists in students sketchbook and student followed the sample as an example.
Originality	Poor Student copied someone's work and ideas	Fair Student's ideas and concepts were fairly original, but were heavily influenced by other works	Good Student borrowed concepts from another's work, but ideas are original and artwork is done well	Excellent Students ideas, sketches and design are original and well thought out
