Design/Composition	3 (Outstanding) Student applies design principles (such as pattern and texture) with great skill.	2+ (S+) Student applies design principles (such as pattern and texture) with fair skill.	2 (Satisfactory) Student tries to apply design principles to the best of their abilities.	2- (S-) Student tries to apply design principles overall result is not pleasing.	1 (Unsatisfactory) The student does not appear to be able to apply most design principles to his/her own work.
Pattern and Shape use	3 (Outstanding) The student has all 6 shapes required on their paper and all 6 shapes have pattern in them.	2+ (S+) The student has at least 5 shapes required on their paper and at least 5 shapes have pattern in them.	2 (Satisfactory) The student has at least 4 shapes required on their paper and at least 4 shapes have pattern in them.	2- (S-) The student has at least 2 shapes required on their paper and at least 2 shapes have pattern in them.	1 (Unsatisfactory) The student has at least 1 shape required on their paper and at least 1 shape has pattern in them.

There is little evidence of creativity, but the student has done the assignment.	2- (S-) Student has copied the entire painting from the source material. No creativity has been added.	1 (Unsatisfactory) Student has not made much attempt to meet the requirements of the assignment and the assignment is not finished.
Time/Effort	3 (Outstanding) Student worked for the entire period with superior focus and did not need reminders to stay on task.	2+ (S+) Student worked for entire period and did not need reminders to stay on task.	2 (Satisfactory) Student worked for most of the period and needed few reminders to stay on task.	2- (S-) Student worked part of the period and needed several reminds to stay on task.	1 (Unsatisfactory) Student did not work during the period even with several reminders to stay on task.
