Demonstrates excellent creativity. Shows interesting formations and patterns and presents a story within the piece. Illustrated several choreographic tools that helped connect the sections together as well as proper musicality.
Technical skills

Fails to include all required dance elements and/or performs them with little to no technique. Veers completely away from assigned theme.
Acceptable

Demonstrates most of the required dance elements yet demostrates little technique (ie. footwork, quality of movements, body positions) demonstrated in performance. Doesn't stay within required theme.

Dance performed with attention to most details of technique, but hasn't attained proficiency in dance style yet. Also incorporates all required dance elements and/or theme.

Dance performed with great attention to quality of movement, body position, placement on stage and other details of dance. Incorporates all required dance elements and/or theme.
Performance

The dancer is not very focused, concentrated or committed to performance. Dance was not well rehearsed or memorized.

The dancer is generally focused, but only some attempt made to communicate with others on stage or audience. Dancer knew most of the choreography, but had to depend on other dancers for cues.

The dancer communicates with other dancers and audience through eye contact and facial and body expression. Dance was mostly well rehearsed and memorized with only a couple of mistakes.

The dancer creates a believable character on stage and is able to engage the audience completely through their performance. Dance was well rehearsed and memorized- there were no mistakes.
Efforts

Dancer failed to contribute any ideas or offer any input within the group. Solo dancer did not use most class time wisely.

Dancer did not appear to contribute much to the dance piece. Solo dancer used class time wisely most of the time, but did not use it to it's fullest.

Dancer worked well within group and participated equally. Dancer contributed minimum amount of required choreography. Solo dancer used most class time wisely.

Dancer demonstrated great collaborative effort buy contributing ideas and input equally amongst the group. Dancer not only contributed the correct amount of choreography, but helped piece the other sections together so the dance flowed. Solo dancer used all class time wisely.
Production

Emerging

Dancers struggled with the production aspects of the piece. Lighting was not thought about prior to meeting with lighting designers. Dancers needed help cutting music and deciding upon costumes.
Acceptable

Most production elements were present. Dancers thought about lighting and sound and were able to come up with lighting with the help of the lighting designers. Music was correctly cut with help. Costumes were planned out and appropriate, but didn't necessarily match the aesthetic of the piece.
Good

All production elements were present. Dancers thought through all aspects of lighting and sounds. They were communicated clearly with lighting designers and worked ok with them. Lighting was varied between movements yet connected the movements together. Music was successfully and independently cut and costumes were appropriate.
Excellent

All production elements were present. Dancers thought through all aspects of lighting and sounds. They were communicated clearly and effectively with lighting designers and worked well with them. Lighting was varied between movements yet still connected the movements together. Lighting ideas added an artistic element to the piece and matched the aesthetic. Music was successfully and independently cut and costumes were creative and appropriate to the aesthetic of the piece.

The piece was not completed and lacked one or more required elements.
Acceptable

The piece was complete, but lacked some cohesiveness between the elements.
Good

The piece was complete beginning to end where most elements blended together cohesively.
Excellent

The piece was a complete story beginning to end. The music, costumes, lighting, choreography, and performance of dancers told a cohesive, thoughtful story.
