Plaster Hand

Goals: Students will create a plaster hand and create a pattern on the hand and base. They will demonstrate there knowledge of the elements and principles of design. They will demonstrate skillful craftsmanship and creativity.

Creativity/Pattern Design 30 pts	Excellent Totally original design, no element is an exact copy of designs seen in source material.	Good Most of the hands elements are unique, but 1 element may be copied from source material.	Fair Some aspects of the hand are unique, but several elements are copied from source materials or other students.	Needs Improvement The hand is a copy of a mask seen in source material or one made by another student (80%) or more is copied.
Craftsmanship 30 pts	Excellent Great care and time were given in the design of the hand. The hand is appealing and shows no flaws.	Good The hand design was well thought and planned out. There are a few visible flaws.	Fair The design appears to be planned out. However, the item has several visible flaws, such as messy painting or poor construction.	Needs Improvement The hand looks thrown together at the last minute. It appears that little design or planning was done. Didn't follow directions when applying plaster casing it to be lumpy or falling apart.
Clean up and care of space 20 pts	Excellent Easily understands directions and key concepts. Helps others when needed and works independently.	Good Easily understands directions and key concepts, usually works independently. Has a positive attitude and makes good use of class time.	Fair Listens to directions but gives up easily and waits for instructor for help. Doesn't consistently make good use of class time.	Needs Improvement Consistently needs help from teacher . Does not take risks, does not make good use of class time. Demonstrates a poor attitude.
