Illustrate the Main Idea of the Selection

Students will create an illustration of the main idea of the selection they read. The main idea will be clearly stated either written or verbally and illustrated. Three supporting details are also identified and illustrated.

Main Idea	Poor The main idea is not written completely or neatly. It is not labeled and hard to find on the paper.	Fair The main idea is labeled but the paper seems cluttered making the main idea difficult to identify.	Good The main idea is a complete thought and is clearly visible on the paper in neat handwriting. It is labeled and easy to identify.
Supporting Details	Poor The poster does not contain 2 supporting details, or the details included do not support the main idea.	Fair The poster has 1 supporting details from the article but they may not be the most supportive evidence from the article. The details are labeled but may be messy and difficult to read.	Good The poster has 2 supporting details from the article. The supporting details are strong evidence of the main idea proving it true. The details are labeled and easy to see on the paper.
Illustrations	Poor The illustrations lack detail, are messy or seem to have nothing to do with the evidence provided by the supporting detail. The student only used one color or scribbled without effort when drawing on the poster.	Fair The drawings illustrate the supporting details but may be messy, making the poster look rushed or cluttered.	Good Each drawing goes with a supporting detail, and clearly supports the main idea. The drawings are neatly applied with attention to detail.
