After a review of the color wheel by the teacher, the student will create a Mandala on paper. The student will correctly mix and paint tints and shades of 4 colors of their choosing.

The Mandala is exceptionally drawn using an stencil shape with the correct number of spaces. The design shows radial symmetry and all slices meet up perfectly

The Mandala is well drawn and represents an stencil shape with the correct number of spaces for the colors, and most of the slices meet up to create radial symmetry.

The Mandala is drawn in an stencil shape, but many of the slices don't meet up. Some of the slices are bigger than others.

The Mandala is poorly drawn and slices are not the correct size, nor do any of the slice designs meet up to create symmetry.

Excellent

Painting is exceptionally neat. There are no paint smudges on the outside of the painting, all edges are clean and smooth. Each coat of paint is applied solidly with no streaks or uneven patches. No white spots are showing.
Good

Painting is neat with minor smudges. Edges are pretty smooth and some spots of color could use an extra coat of paint. Few white spots show through.
Satisfactory

Overall painting is somewhat messy and some paint extends outside shapes. Edges are somewhat smooth. Paint smudges and marks around mandala are evident.
Needs Improvement

Student rushed through project and overall painting is not neat. Mandala appears messy and smudgy, paint extending far outside of the designated shape. Paper is wrinkled, rolled, or ripped and there are many extraneous marks and mess ups around Mandala.
Effort and Time Management

Excellent

Student worked throughout the entire period ever day, bell to bell, with no deviation. Student sought and accepted constructive criticism from teacher and made adjustments where needed. Student tried their absolute best and had a positive attitude throughout project.
Good

Extra effort to bring project to a conclusion on time. Student worked bell to bell most of the time, with a good attitude.
Satisfactory

Student put in satisfactory effort to complete assignment. Student did not work bell to bell, but worked about 75% of the time with some redirection. Attitude was satisfactory.
Needs Improvement

Minimal effort to complete assignment. Class time was not used wisely and student needed constant redirection. Student had a poor attitude throughout project.
