Discussion postings This rubric is intended to assess students' discussion posts in EMRE 101: Emergency Preparedness and Response.
	Advanced 5 pts	Proficient 4 pts	Partially Proficient 3 pts	Unsatisfactory 0 pts
Critical Thinking Question Participants provide a thought or question that shows a depth of knowledge of the module topic.	Advanced A critical reflective observation, or comment, relevant to the topic focus area, that will further the exchange on the topic and length above minimum requirements.	Proficient A critical reflective observation, or comment relevant to the topic focus area that will further the exchange on the topic and is of minimum length.	Partially Proficient A critical reflective observation, or comment relevant to the topic focus area that did not meet the length requirement, but the information is complete.	Unsatisfactory A critical reflective observation, or comment relevant to the topic focus area that is not included in post submission, length was not met, nor was information complete.
Grammar Errors Post submission must be generally free of grammatical and spelling errors.	Advanced Posting are mechanically and grammatically correct with no spelling errors	Proficient Posting contains 1-3 grammatical and spelling errors.	Partially Proficient Posting contains 4-6 grammatical and spelling errors.	Unsatisfactory Posting contains more than 6 grammatical and spelling errors.
Timeliness To further discussion, post submissions will be submitted by the discussion due date to allow course participants opportunities to respond to each other.	Advanced Participant submitted input by post due date and responded to one (or more) other participants' response(s) post before post due date.	Proficient Participant submitted input by post due date and responded to one participant's response(s) before post due date.	Partially Proficient Participant submitted after post due date and no response was submitted to other post responses before or after post due date.	Unsatisfactory No original posting or response made.
Response etiquette Each participant will be responsible for responding to other posters, or instructor.	Advanced Participants responded to a minimum of required responses, with thoughtful or helpful ideas and questions. Postings and responses are respectful in tone and encouraging	Proficient Participant responded to some responses, not critically asking questions or providing guidance. Postings and responses are mostly respectful in tone.	Partially Proficient Participant responded with only "I agree" or something similar. Postings and responses are bordering on disrespectful or sarcastic.	Unsatisfactory Participant did not respond to others. Poster comments fostered a negative learning environment.
