(1) Explains procedure to patient (Ice strokes, taking slack of muscle by stretching). (2) Tells patient to take deep breath throughout treatment. (3) Informs patient if they experience sharp pain, or becomes too uncomfortable at any point to let them know and they will stop treatment. (4) Explains that if during application the patient feels the ice needs to be directed over a line of muscle that may be getting missed. (5) Ensuring patient is comfortable and relaxed.

Ice & Stretch procedure

(1) Ensure patient is comfortable, one end of muscle anchored. (2) Demo edge ice before application. (3) Parallel sweeps over skin 10cm/sec & 2cm spacing. Catching water drips. (4) Sweeps of ice over entire muscle and referral area. (5) After 2-4 sweeps, stretch to tissue barrier. (6) Repeat up to 3x (7) At the end hold stretch up to 50 sec. (8) Slowly return patient back to neutral. (9) Verbally indicate area has been rewarmed. (10) Instruct patient to perform series of AROM.
