Framing Model rubric 2025 
Students will create a scale, framing model of a portion of a residential building. They will be graded on each phase of construction: foundation, floor framing, wall framing including window and door, roof rafters, and interior and exterior finishing.

The model is very clean looking and does not have excessive gaps showing or torn edges to the various construction material.

Excellent

All phases of construction are built according to actually building techiques and have the necessary number of members to be structurally sound.

Excellent

It is obvious that the team has taken time and care during construction. Cuts are straight and not jagged, there isn't an excessive amount of glue showing around joints.

Members, joists, and studs are slightly canted. There is moderate glue showing in joints. Materials may be only slightly misaligned.

Excessive dried glue around joints. Misalighned joists, or studs.
Accuracy

Excellent

All wooden members are strictly parrallel to each other and every space between each member is equal.

All walls are strictly measured for spacing but framing for windows, doors, or corner bracing may be improper.

Each team member has participated in the construction equally. Based on absences from class and actuall classroom activity.

More than 3 days absent from class or tema members have to be told of what they need to be doing during classtime to complete the model only occasionally.

More than 5 days abscent from class. An individual team member has not help build the majority of the model.
lay out/On center spacing

Excellent

All on center spacing is correct, all door and window opening have the necessary framing in place and are the correct rough opening widths. All framing members stack up above/below for proper load distribution

Most center spacing is correct, most door and window opening have the necessary framing in place and are the correct rough opening widths. Most framing members stack up above/below for proper load distribution
