Drawing Accuracy

Advanced

The student accurately drew their printed image into a photo realistic image. The students included an extreme amount of details, accurately drew facial features, and has paid close attention to textures.
Meets Standards

The student pretty accurately drew their image. The student included most details and drew facial features pretty well with minor issues. The student could have paid attention to details in texture.
Improving

Drawing is somewhat accurate but has some shaping, spacing, and/or sizing issues. Some facial features are not in place and are not drawn according to the photo. The drawing lacks detail and texture.
Needs Improvement

Attempted the drawing, but had a lot of struggles and did not incorporate their sighting or lines of symmetry skills to progress. Facial features are not in the proper place and are disproportionate.
Capturing emotion

Advanced

Student captured an emotion that easily read by the viewer.
Meets Standards

The student captured an emotion, but it’s a little hard to read.
Improving

It’s difficult to understand the emotion being captured.
Needs Improvement

Student did not follow instructions and captured something very basic and straight forward.
Values

Advanced

Value is used in a very expressive manner. A varied range of value and contrast (value range of darks, highlights, and mid tones) and all objects are shaded where needed. Artist was able to achieve multiple values. Face looks fully rendered and 3D.
Meets Standards

Value is used in a somewhat expressive way. Values have been blended showing proficiency using medium. Artist achieved a wide enough range of values. Artist is lacking the small details found within shading and adding value.
Improving

Value is used in an average way. Value is added to some of the features and shading somewhat reflects the actual value of the photograph portrait. Attempts to blend gradient values are rough and not smooth. Artist achieved a minimal amount of values.
Needs Improvement

Value is lifeless and below average. Little or weak value is added to enhance features. Shading is not used and does not reflect the value of the portrait. No blending seen and dramatic jumps in value where there are none in the photo. Artist did not attempt to match values accurately.
Craftsmanship

Advanced

The student put forth extraordinary effort to complete the project as well as possible; used class time extremely well. Student was focused and refrained from discussions that were not pertinent to the project.
STUDENT TURNED IN PROJECT ON TIME. Items do not seem outlined and type of guidelines used are no longer seen.
Meets Standards

The student put forth the effort required to complete the project well; used class time well. Student was focused and somewhat refrained from discussions that were not pertinent to the project. Paper is in pretty good shape. Some things still seem outlined, if guidelines were used they can’t be seen.
Improving

The student put forth the effort required to finish the project; used some class time adequately. Student was not focused and did not refrain from discussions that were not pertinent to the project. Had to be reminded of the task at hand. Paper has some errors and damages. Things still look outlined and errors are seen.
Needs Improvement

The student put forth little effort required to finish the project; class time was not used well. Student spent more time socializing with other students and less time on assignment. Paper not taken care of. Errors and lines are very visible.
Composition

Advanced

Student has created an engaging composition with focal points. The cropping was done well and there is limited negative space. The composition definitely compliments the emotion chosen. Composition is unique and creative. All photos have a different composition and view.
Meets Standards

The student has created a good composition that is pretty straight forward. Cropping was a little confusing, but the emotions come through and the negative space is limited. The photos might have some repetition or the same feeling.
Improving

The student’s composition is lacking. They either zoomed in and cropped too much or not enough. Negative space might also be an issue. Many of the photos may have the similar feelining.
Needs Improvement

Composition is not up to standard and the student has too much negative space. All photos are similar.
