Grid Drawing 
Students will practice contour line accuracy by using a digital photo, grid the photo in a 1/2 inch grid. Then create a 1 inch grid on your drawing paper to transfer your drawing to. After transferring your drawing using the grid, You will be graded on incorporating your own personal artistic style, use composition and design, craftsmanship, and effort.

Student observed and mastered line quality of the original picture in their work. They also contoured and/or shaded the internal lines of the picture, not just the outline. There is full range of value in the finished picture.

Student observed the line quality of the original picture and tried to have thick and thin lines. They also contoured and/or shaded the internal lines of the picture, not just the outline. There is almost full range of value in the finished picture.
Meets the Standard

Student has basic line quality of the original picture but most lines are the same thickness and value. They did not draw the contoured internal lines of the picture, only the outline. There is almost partial range of value in the finished picture.
Below the Standard

Student only completed the outline of the drawing with no internal contour line and no value range.
Craftsmanship

Exceeds the Standard

Student completes artwork with high level of craftsmanship. Drawing is neat, clean & complete. Piece is not wrinkled, torn, or otherwise “distressed”.
Above the Standard

Student completes artwork with some high levels of craftsmanship and some finishing touches.
Meets the Standard

Student completes artwork with evidence of basic levels of craftsmanship.
Below the Standard

Student completes artwork with isolated evidence of craftsmanship.
Effort

Exceeds the Standard

Assignment is complete, far exceeded requirements. Student took constructive criticism to better their art piece. Student tried to apply learned techniques to make grid drawing extremely precise.
Above the Standard

Assignment is complete, and contour lines are precise. Student used constructive criticism to make their drawing accurate.
Meets the Standard

Student completes assignment with basic contour lines. The grid matches with most of the photo they gridded. Contour lines are not very precise, and student did not use constructive criticism.
Below the Standard

Student did not master assignment and refused constructive criticism.
Time Managment

Exceeds the Standard

Student used every minute of class to make the artwork the best quality piece. Was not turned in early or late.
Above the Standard

Student used class time to make the artwork the best quality piece, but needed 1 redirection to stay focused. Was turned in 1 day early or late.
Meets the Standard

Student used some class time to make the artwork the best quality piece, but needed MANY redirection to stay focused. Was turned in 2 days early or late.

Student did not use class time well to finish piece.
