Pottery "Slice"

Students will be able to create a slab build cake/pie piece according to the correct process and finish the piece using glazing techniques

slab build	Accomplished 4 Student was able to create and build a pie/cake slice using a template. The sides align and have no gaps or cracks. Each section was scored, slipped and has a coil seam. All pieces,including the lid are even.	Skilled 3 Student was able to create and build a pie/cake slice using a template. The pieces mostly align but there may be an issue with the lid not quite meeting the sides. Each section was scored, slipped and coiled. No visible gaps or cracks.	Emerging 2 Student was able to create and build a pie/cake slice, but may not have used the template effectively. The pieces come together but have slight alignment issues. All sections were scored and slipped but there may be a missing coil or two.	Limited 1 Student was able to create and build a pie/cake slice but had issues with construction, missing one or more of the following: scoring, slipping, coiling, template alignment, etc.
applique	Accomplished 4 Student was able to successfully attach 5 items to their slice by using score and slip. Each item was sculpted and has a 3D effect. glaze	Accomplished 4 Student was able to apply glaze appropriately. Each layer is equal and does not have any streaks. The glaze enhances the theme and the color choices are appropriate for the items.	Skilled 3 Student was able to apply the glaze in even layers, with little streaking seen. tool usage	Accomplished 4 Student was able to use tools appropriately and correctly for their purpose. The choice of tool was best for the given task and added the a clean finish.	Skilled 3 Student was able to select and use the correct tool for the intended purpose.	Emerging 2 Student was able to use tools for different purposes but ,may have had issues finding the best one for the job on the first try but corrected the choice	Limited 1 Student was able to use some tools but may not have picked the best for the job.
Craftsmanship	Accomplished 4 Student was able to create a piece that is free of cracks, gaps and streaks. The finish work has a professional appearance and is of high quality. There are no burrs or pottery flakes that snag or catch on the piece.	Skilled 3 Student was able to create a piece that is mainly free of streaks but does not have any significant cracks (few surface cracks may be seen). Nothing catches on the piece. Gaps are not seen.	Emerging 2 Student was able to create a finished piece that may have slight structural issues but is still usable. Cracks are deeper but have not ruined the usability of the piece. Finish is acceptable but could be improved.	Limited 1 Student was able to create a finished piece but has structural issues such as cracks or gaps. The quality of the finish is lacking finishing touches and may need additional work or time to be truly successful.
