Organization/Neatness

Poor

Little or no orginization. It is (visually) very hard to understand what evidence corresponds to what theme. It may also be very hard to figure out where one piece of evidence ends and another begins, due to lack of punctuation or bullet points, etc. Handwriting may be indecipherable.
Fair

Evidence is in the same general area on the graphic organizer as the theme. With little difficutlty one could decipher what evidence corresponds to which theme. Student may use some bullet points but not neccessarily throughout the entire activity. Handwriting may be so poor as to inhibit one from reading the student's evidence very easily.
Good

It is clear as to which pieces of evidence correspond to each of the themes. The student uses bullet points (or some sort of designation) to represent each different piece of evidence. Handwritting is readable.
Excellent

Formatting of evidence is visually appealing. There are obvious distinctions between pieces of evidence. The student uses bullet points appropritely. Handwritting is easily decipherable. The student may even make distinct lines between themes.
Quality/Quantity of Evidence

Poor

With lots of support had little or no supporting evidence. Evidence is not at all supportive of the theme. "Evidence" is not from the text. Many incomplete thoughts. Evidence does not make any sense.
Fair

With minimal support had few supporting ideas. Evidence is not always entirely supportive of the theme. Some of the evidence may be incomplete or have little relation to the story. But in general the student seems to be able to identify one or two pieces of supporting evidence for each theme.
Good

Student has identified two or more pieces of supporting evidence for each theme. Ideas are generally complete. Evidence is clearly related to the story. Evidence is very supportive of the themes.
Excellent

Student has plenty of strong supporting pieces of evidence for each theme. The evidence comes from different places in the book: text, pictures, etc. the student may also have supporting evidence that is based on a combination of the text with supporting detail.
Other Themes and Evidence

Poor

No other themes identified.
Fair

One (or two) additional theme(s) listed, however the "theme" may not actually have much relation to the story. Or the supporting evidence may not actually be supportive of the theme.
Good

One additional theme with decent supporting evidence.
Excellent

One or more additional themes with good supporting evidence.
