Only repeats question or does not make a historically defensible claim.

Makes a claim that is not historically defensible or does not address all parts of the question or is outside the time period.

Presents a thesis that makes a historically defensible claim and responds to all parts of the question. The thesis must consist of one or more sentences located in one place, either in the intro or the conclusion.

Makes claim but without evidence.

Makes claim with evidence but with flaws in argument or illogical evidence.

Addresses the topic (part of the thesis) with specific examples of relevant evidence.
