listening attentively	Mastery eyes are focused on the picture book sitting quietly raising hand to ask a question or make a comment	working toward mastery eyes focused on the picture book sitting quietly most of the time interrupting occasionally	beginning level hard time sitting still interrupting quite often with comments that do not apply to the story
Sequential order	Mastery Can retell the story correctly in sequential order with a beginning, middle, and end	working toward mastery Can retell most of the story getting at least the beginning and end correct Has a basic idea of story content	beginning level Has a basic idea of story content but can not tell what happened in the story in sequential olrder
