Human Rights Tribunal Mini-Trial 
In your professional career as a Human Resources specialist, you will likely encounter claims under the Ontario Human Rights Code. Indeed, it is very likely that you may at one point in time be on the opposite side of a claim yourself. This assignment requires learners to file, reply to and adjudicate upon claims made under both of these statutes in a role-play. Learners will arbitrarily be assigned into teams of 2. Each team will consist of two (2) “Employers”, two (2) “Employees” and two (2) Adjudicators. One of the two “Employers” will be the Spokesperson/Counsel for the Employer. One of the two “Employers” will be the Spokesperson/Counsel for the Employee. One of the two Adjudicators will be the “President” of the tribunal.

Needs Improvement

Research was done but is missing key details and arguments. Case brief does not link facts and law. Case brief was not handed in on time.

Research was incomplete or case brief was not filed at all.
The Pleadings/Decision

Excellent

The pleading/decision is well written and includes no spelling or grammatical errors. It includes each of the required sections in the right format. The Decision (as the case may be) was thorough, organized, logical, well thought out and linked facts and law to each other. Includes strong analysis and well thought out arguments. Followed the format and the Rules of Procedure. All filings were on time.
Meets Expecations

The pleading/decision is well written but includes 1-4 spelling or grammatical errors. Each of the required sections are included. Good analysis and arguments. Mostly followed the format and the Rules of Procedure. All filings were on time.
Needs Improvement

The pleading/decisions completed but includes 5-9 spelling and grammatical errors. The brief is missing a required section. An attempt to analyze the material was made but didn't go far enough. More or less followed the format and the Rules of Procedure. Some of the filings were on time.
Poor

The pleading/decision was missing 2 major sections or was not completed at all. Many grammatical and spelling errors. No attempt at analysis is made. Did not followed the format and the Rules of Procedure. No filings were on time.
The Mini-Trial

Excellent

Strong persuasive argument is made. Followed the format and the Rules of Procedure. Professional, courteous, dressed appropriately and well organized. The group made each of its main points. Every group member participated. The Panel was actively involved in asking questions for clarity.
Meets Expecations

Persuasive arguments were made. Professional and organized. Missed 1 key point or argument. Followed the format and appeared professional and organized. Mostly followed the Rules of Procedure.
Needs Improvement

A couple of the group members did not participate in the debate. Appeared professional. Somewhat disorganized. Made most of their groups key points but lacked persuasiveness. More or less followed the format and the Rules of Procedure.
Poor

Group was unable to make several of their key points. Didn't follow the format of the debate. Appeared unprofessional and unorganized. Not all group members participated. Disrespectful of others during debate. Did not followed the Rules of Procedure.
