Articulation	4 All articulation patterns are performed correctly.	3 Almost all articulation patterns are correct with only an occasional small error.	2 Student usually follows the articulation marked but there are frequent or repeated small errors.	1 Difficulty with tonguing slurring patterns and/or accents.	0 No real attempt at articulation is being made.
Pitch Accuracy	4 Pitches are correct (1 mistake or less)	3 Mostly correct with a few errors in pitch or rhythm. (2-3 mistakes)	2 Shows a good feel for the notes in the piece but there are frequent or repeated small mistakes in pitch. (4-5 mistakes)	1 Many notes are incorrect - student seems unfamiliar with the tune. (6 or more mistakes)	0 No recognizable tune is present.
Tone Quality	4 Tone is full and well projected. A truly characteristic sound for the instrument.	3 Considerable projection and fullness of tone but still somewhat short of a mature sound.	2 Fair use of projection and fullness of tone.
