  Exemplary

20 pts

Proficient

Met expectations with minimal flaws.

18 pts

Acceptable

Followed instructions, but still needs a little more effort of work.

15 pts

Unreasonable

Due to personal choices the student did not do well because of a lack of effort or following instructions.

10 pts

Design

Student filled the page and created layers. Student has a balanced piece that isn't too busy nor minimal.

Exemplary

Student filled up their entire page. They created organic forms of different sizes and shapes. They layered and created tears correctly within their organic shapes. Design has a very satisfying feeling of balance. Not too busy or minimal.
Proficient

Student filled up most of their entire page. They created organic forms of different sizes and shapes, but may have needed a little more diversity. They layered and created tears correctly within their organic shapes. Design feels completed, but could have been been a bit more thoughtful.
Acceptable

Student could have filled up more of their paper. The first five or more organic shapes needed to be more diverse, might not have been accurate in sizes, or maybe needed more shapes to begin with. The piece feels a bit rushed and not thoughtfully planned.
Unreasonable

Student did not follow directions and had been shown through demo in class, youtube demo, and can visually see other correct examples by students surrounding them. Student did not have five organic shapes to begin with and inaccurately placed the layers. Piece wasn't done well due to personal choices unrelated to child's ability.
Craftsmanship

Student controlled environment and self to keep their project clean and well taken care of. Student used their time management effectively to complete the tasks.

Exemplary

Student took very good care of their work and paper. The paper does not appear to be damaged. There are no unnecessary smudges or damages.
Proficient

Student took pretty good care of their work and paper. Paper may have a few minor damages. There may be a couple smudges or errors not erased well enough.
Acceptable

Student needs to be more cautious of how they handle their work. Paper may have multiple damages and/or tears. Paper may have quite a bit of errors due to how the artist drew too dark from the start. Errors should not be visible because students have been taught to draw lightly and erase all visible errors.
Unreasonable

Student had turned in a piece of art that seems to be very damaged due to the student's negligence.
Values

Student has a wide range of values. At least five like practiced in class.

Exemplary

The student has used their drawing pencils accurately and created multiple values. There are at least 4 or more values in the piece. The student has created a sense of depth very well because they have accurately placed their values.
Proficient

The student has used their pencils accurately to create values, but could have had more dark and/or lighter values. There is still a sense of depth, but more values could have been beneficial.
Acceptable

The piece is lacking a range of values. There are values, but not enough and therefore the sense of depth isn't as apparent as it should be.
Unreasonable

The student did not accurately place values because the student rushed the process. The student has very limited range.
Pencil use and technique

Student used more than one pencil, their drawing erasers, and blenders correctly.

Exemplary

The student used the pencil techniques taught in class very well. They demonstrated excellent techniques by creating textures and a wide range of values within their piece. Students used more than one drawing pencil, accurately used their blender to create gradients and correctly added pressure when needed or not needed.
Proficient

The student used both pencils and their blender but there are a few odd textures. The gradients could have been blended out a bit more. Graphite might have needed to be added or erased to achieve better gradients.
Acceptable

There are gradients visible but not enough. The gradients visible also might not have the range needed to create depth.
Unreasonable

The pencil techniques are reading very messy and rushed because the student rushed the process and did not try to control their hand pressure. The student didn't take in class time seriously and it resulted in a piece poorly executed.
Comprehension of Instructions

Student followed order of steps and executed piece from beginning to end.

Exemplary

Student followed instructions extremely well and has an extremely presentable piece that demonstrates proper technique, a wide range of values, depth and a very presentable piece.
Proficient

The student followed the directions pretty well, but needed to pay more attention to creating the layers a bit more.
Acceptable

Student needed to take notes or follow the video demonstration a bit better. Did not appear to have a piece that represented the project as well as it should have.
Unreasonable

Student did not follow instructions. Instructions were presented multiple times in multiple ways.
