Academic Decathlon Team Selection

This rubric is used for the application and Academic Decathlon team selection process. All coaches and administration will utilize this rubric to determine 10 qualified candidates.

Criteria for team member selection. The team member possesses, but not limited to, the following criteria.
	Below Average The applicant is below average in the criteria below. 1 pts	Average The applicant is average in the criteria below. 2 pts	Above Average The applicant is above average in the criteria below. 3 pts	Exemplary The applicant is exemplary in the criteria below. 4 pts
STAR ELA Core Score (Previous Year) 1 pts STAR ELA NPR Core Scores from previous school year used to determine eligibility.	Below Average NPR score below 69%.	Average NPR score 70% to 79%	Above Average NPR score 80% to 89%	Exemplary NPR score 90% to 100%
STAR Math Core Score(Previous Year) 1 pts STAR Math NPR Core Scores from previous school year used to determine eligibility.	Below Average NPR score below 69%.	Average NPR score 70% to 79%	Above Average NPR score 80% to 89%	Exemplary NPR score 90% to 100%
SLA (Report Card) Work Habits. 1 pts The previous year's SLA is used to determine team member eligibility.	Below Average Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "D" or below.	Average Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "C".	Above Average Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "B".	Exemplary Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "A".
SLA (Report Card) Citizenship. 1 pts The previous year's SLA is used to determine team member eligibility with regard to their responsible behavior.	Below Average Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "D" or below.	Average Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "C".	Above Average Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "B".	Exemplary Previous school year's SLA for all three trimesters average a "A".
Contributions 1 pts Previous/Current year's teacher observations on the team member's contribution skills.	Below Average Rarely provides useful ideas when participating in the group and in classroom discussion. May refuse to participate.	Average Sometimes provides useful ideas when participating in the group and in classroom discussion. A satisfactory group member who does what is required.	Above Average Usually provides useful ideas when participating in the group and in classroom discussion. A strong group member who tries hard!	Exemplary Routinely provides useful ideas when participating in the group and in classroom discussion. A definite leader who contributes a lot of effort.
Problem Solving 1 pts Previous/Current year's teacher observations on the team member's problem solving skills to effectively participate.	Below Average Does not try to solve problems or help others solve problems. Lets others do the work.	Average Does not suggest or refine solutions, but is willing to try out solutions suggested by others.	Above Average Refines solutions suggested by others.	Exemplary Actively looks for and suggests solutions to problems.
Time Management 1 pts Previous/Current year's teacher observations on the team member's time management skills to effective participate.	Below Average Rarely gets things done by the deadlines AND group has to adjust deadlines or work responsibilities because of this person's inadequate time management.	Average Tends to procrastinate, but always gets things done by the deadlines. Group does not have to adjust deadlines or work responsibilities because of this person's procrastination.	Above Average Usually uses time well throughout the project, but may have procrastinated on one thing. Group does not have to adjust deadlines or work responsibilities because of this person's procrastination.	Exemplary Routinely uses time well throughout the project to ensure things get done on time. Group does not have to adjust deadlines or work responsibilities because of this person's procrastination.
Preparedness 1 pts Previous/Current year's teacher observations on the team member's preparedness for coursework and activities.	Below Average Often forgets needed materials or is rarely ready to get to work.	Average Almost always brings needed materials but sometimes needs to settle down and get to work	Above Average Almost always brings needed materials to class and is ready to work.	Exemplary Brings needed materials to class and is always ready to work.
Quality of Work 1 pts Previous/Current year's teacher observations on the team member's quality of work.	Below Average Provides work that usually needs to be checked/redone by others to ensure quality.	Average Provides work that occasionally needs to be checked/redone by other group members to ensure quality.	Above Average Provides high quality work.	Exemplary Provides work of the highest quality.
Working with Others 1 pts Previous/Current year's teacher observations on the team member's ability to work with others.	Below Average Rarely listens to, shares with, and supports the efforts of others. Often is not a good team player.	Average Often listens to, shares with, and supports the efforts of others, but sometimes is not a good team member.	Above Average Usually listens to, shares, with, and supports the efforts of others. Does not cause "waves" in the group.	Exemplary Almost always listens to, shares with, and supports the efforts of others. Tries to keep people working well together.
Assessment Test 1 pts The assessment test used in ranking students. Students have studied for the test with the criteria on the topic.	Below Average Score below 69%.	Average Score 70% to 79%	Above Average Score 80% to 89%	Exemplary Score 90% to 100%
