The "Right" Height

Use similar right triangles and "shadow reckoning" to determine the height of a physical object.

The "Right" Height Standard: MAFS.9.12.G-SRT.2.5. Use congruence and similarity criteria for triangles to solve problems and prove relationships in geometric figures. Objective: In a group of three, given a real world task in an outdoor setting, students will be able to determine the length or height of a physical object using geometric theories for similarity and congruency of right triangles.
	Missing Weak attempt or failure to attempt. 0-3 points 3 pts	Novice Many errors, unorganized and does not show understanding of the concept. 4-6 points 6 pts	Basic Organized and shows understanding of the concept, but with errors. 7-9 points 9 pts	Proficient Some errors, but organized and shows understanding of the concept. 10-12 points 12 pts	Excellent Very neat, organized, and shows mastery of the concept with no errors. 13-15 points 15 pts
Mathematical Computations 15 pts Determine the correct height of the flagpole. Grading criteria for diverse learners will be adjusted IAW their accommodations and IEP.	Missing Did not attempt to perform any mathematical computations.	Novice Height of flagpole was incorrect due to many computational errors.	Basic Height of flagpole was determined in the lower estimated range due to computational errors.	Proficient Height of the flagpole was in the estimated range with some computational errors. Proportional Reasoning 15 pts The ability to think critically and recognize the relationship between two quantities. Grading criteria for diverse learners will be adjusted IAW their accommodations and IEP.	Missing Did not attempt to develop a proportion between two similar figures.
