Choosing the words

students created small groups, chose a poem out of 6 options, and underlined words they thought could be 'represented' by an instrument to enhance the poem

Poor

students chose words that did not help enhance the meaning or feel of the poem. Eg. and, or, he, is, etc....
Fair

students chose some words that did not help enhance the meaning or feel of the poem. Eg. and, or, he, is, etc....
Good

students chose words that worked will with instruments to create an image or a feel to the poem. Descriptive words such as climb, fall, star, etc.
Group co-operation

students were required to choose their own groups, and were expected to keep one another accountable in their contribution

Poor

students did not fully participate in the process and made no effort to include the students that were not engaged in the process.
students could not agree on decisions
Fair

some students in the group worked well and were engaged in the process, but they were unsuccessful at ensuring all members of the group were participating
Good

students worked well together, listened to ideas and found strategies to make decisions.
students made an effort to keep all members of the group accountable in participating in the project
Organization/Rehearsal

students were expected to use the rehearsal time given to create their first draft. They shared with the class and were given feed back and used the next rehearsal time to 'edit' their work to make it better

Poor

students were not focused during rehearsal time, and were unable to successfully perform due to lack of practice
Fair

students focused for the most part, but not all the time
performance was a little unorganized and was not fluent due to lack of practice, but still met the criteria of the assignment
Good

students used rehearsal time wisely and made sure they played their instruments at the correct time, with fluency
Appropriate Instruments

students were expected to choose instruments that fit the words, giving the poem more 'personality'

Poor

students randomly chose instruments they wanted to play, rather than instruments that enhanced the word
Fair

students had some instruments assigned to words that enhanced the poem, but did not edit the sounds that were not a good fit, when given the opportunity
Good

students used appropriate instruments that fit with the word and made the poem more enjoyable to listen to
Enhanced the Poem

students were expected to choose good, descriptive words, and match appropriate instruments with the words, to make a poem come to life.

Poor

The poem was not more interesting to listen to, due to students choice of instruments, and lack of rehearsal
Fair

The poem was enhanced by many of the instruments chosen,, but a few words did not fit with the instrument that was played
Good

students chose instruments that fit the descriptive words, making the poem come to life for the audience
