Repot a plant 
Student will determine whether the plant needs to be repotted by knocking the soil column out and examining the roots, pruning the roots, placing the plant in a new pot and backfill and tamp soil around the roots, water it and fertilize

Examine the roots

Poor

Student causes damage to the plant when trying to knock it out of the plant. Student struggles to point out dead and healthy roots.
Fair

Student gets the plant out the container but in a way that may cause stem or root damage. Student may or may not be able to point out dead and healthy roots.
Good

Student properly pops the plant out of the container and visibly inspects the root system and is able to point out healthy and dead roots. Determines percentage of rootbound roots.
Prune the roots

Poor

Students don't prune the roots at all or only very minimally.
Fair

Student misses pruning the roots at the bottom or misses pruning the roots at the sides of the column.
Good

Student cuts and combs roots out from the bottom inch of the soil column and along the sides.

Students make 3 or more mistakes or leave out steps.

Student make 1 or 2 mistakes like forgetting to moisten the soil or potting the plant in too large a pot or placing the plant at an incorrect soil level, or not tamping the soil properly.
Good

A drainage layer is made in the bottom of the correct size pot. The plant is centered and at the correct level, soil is moistened and tamped around the soil column.
water & fertilize

Poor

Student make 3 or more mistakes, forgetting to water or fertilize. Or the student will water without drenching the soil column or use the wrong fertilizer rates.
Fair

Students make 1 or 2 mistakes either forgetting to water or fertilize or watering improperly
Good

When watering the water is filled to the brim and allowed to drain out the bottom of the pot. Liquid fertilizer and granular fertilizer is added at the proper rates.
Cleanup

Poor

Student leaves more than two tools out and doesn't clean up or sweep up any messes.
Fair

Student may leave one or two tools out or may not clean up the floor. Plant soil may not be cultivated.
Good

Student cleans up and puts all tools in their proper place. if water or soil is on the floor it is swept up. Plant soil is cultivated.
